Minister, Minister, what can the matter be
Three old ladies in beds in the lavatory
They’ve been there from Monday to Saturday
No room in long term care.

The first place they offered to old Mrs. Grundy
They serve wine with dinner and lobster on Sundays
But they’ll charge forty dollars to wash out your undies
And twice that to help with your hair.

The next place with spaces was shown Mrs. Maynard.
They offered her fountains and personal trainers
And charged a small fortune in fees and retainers,
But she needed the wrong sort of care.

But you sure can’t complain if you’re Mrs. McGrath.
There’s a view of the foothills and toilet and bath.
It’s central and free if you don’t do the math
And timely for all kinds of care!

Now that I’m older, losing my health

In my golden years (kazoo – toot-toot-toot-toot-toot)

Can I still be counting on some Medicare?

Or a two-tiered system – patient beware!

If I’m in need of emergency care,

Will they lock the door?

Will they still heed me, will they still treat me

When I’m eighty-four?

I could be clever, stock up on pills

Vitamins galore (kazoo – toot-toot-toot-toot-toot)

Jog a mile or so, a hundred push-ups too

Eat some bran and delicious tofu

Turn up my nose at deep apple pie

And buttered-dripping scones

Will they still heed me, will they still treat me

If I break some bones?

Send them a postcard, drop them a line

Indicate precisely what you mean to say

Else you’ll find you’re wasting away

Ask for an answer, not just a form

A citizen’s just due

Our province claims an advantage

For people who live and work here

But on whose back is this budget balanced?

Will disabled folk take up the rear?

We call upon those of you here

To rise up and tell those you’ve elected

To take care of those we hold most dear.

We want NO MORE CUTS

With all the money they’re spending

Plus all the dollars they’re lending

The disabled need aid

And aides who get paid

We say STOP THE CUTS

Although it’s such a tradition

To blame our woes on the debt

Let’s put that thought in remission

And reclaim our safety net.
